Payroll Support Specialist

 

Snelling Staffing is currently seeking a Payroll Support Specialist for a large consulting company in the Baton Rouge area. The Payroll Support Specialist is responsible for calculating and processing high volume payroll for multiple companies. The ideal candidate for this position will have extensive knowledge of payroll processing.

 

Payroll Support Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Retrieves payroll information from software, prepares reports for client’s review, and processes requests in a timely manner
  • Responsible for correct setup of earnings and deduction codes in payroll platform.
  • Participates with the daily “day end” process to ensure that all business transactions from the current day have been correctly processed and submitted to clearing houses
  • Researches, analyzes and resolves payroll-related problems or questions directly with clients
  • Maintains payroll operation by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes
  • Recommends and participates in the development of new procedures and policies related to payroll operations
  • Prepares daily outbound payroll packages
  • Professional, articulate and able to use good independent judgment and discretion
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills required
  • Processes requests for garnishment set-ups, salary changes, and tax withholding set-ups using knowledge of complex local tax laws and reciprocity for multi-state withholding tax laws
  • Prepares, analyzes, generates and reviews payroll reports to ensure accurate payroll and garnishment processing, resolves discrepancies
  • Responds in a timely fashion to client inquiries via phone and email
  • Performs additional duties as required, including special projects and audits

Payroll Support Specialist Qualifications:

  • At least an Associate’s Degree with one or two years of experience in payroll, benefits administration, financial institution, of equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll processing, practices, and laws
  • Competent in payroll tax and accounting
  • Experience with ADP payroll processing software
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred or desire to earn CPP certification
  • Ability to work under general supervision
  • Must be goal and detail oriented
